SPF50+ Material
SPF protection
Sun-protective hats are essential on warm summer days. It would be best to seek protection from UV sunlight as it causes problems to your skin. Especially the hours between noon and 3 PM are harmful when it comes to skin damage. At the same time, your body's heat wants to escape.
The size of a hat brim or cap has an essential effect on sun protection: a wider hat brim will protect your face and ears better than a short brim. Make sure the peak or visor covers your nose and ears.
Cooling materials Hats made of natural straws with SPF50 protection are airy, light in weight and comfortable to wear. Natural straw hats do not obstruct the warm body temperature that wants to leave via your head, whether it is a sisal straw, a panama fibre or a braided cellulose straw. We advise avoiding synthetic fibres as they block the body heat and make you sweaty and uncomfortable.
Check our panama straw hats like Patricia, Luc, Thomas and Martin.
Get inspired by our wide range of natural straws made of braided cellulose fibres, like Anna, Josephine, and Linda, all of which provide SPF50 protection.
Storage and cleaning of straw hats and caps with SPF50 protection
You cannot wash straw hats/caps as the fibres will absorb moisture, and the headwear may lose its shape. However, you can clean the sweatband ribbon inside the hat/cap. Take a clean kitchen towel, put a few drops of f.e 80% alcohol on it, and rub the area of the sweatband/ ribbon. The alcohol will remove makeup and skin residue. Leave the sweatband to dry for 10 minutes, and you can wear your hat/cap again.
SPF protection and fabric headwear
We also develop hats and caps made from fabrics that give SPF protection. We select fabrics taking the density of the fabric into account. The materials have a particular additional layer of interlining to optimize sun protection. The sun protection of fabric hats also depends on the width of the brim or peak of the cap.
Storage and cleaning of fabric headwear
By the end of the season, it is time to store your SPF-protection headwear correctly. Depending on the composition and make, you can handwash your fabric hat- cap or get it dry-cleaned.
When you wash a cotton hat/cap, f.e, use mild shampoo or detergent in hand-warm water. Rinse the hat/cap and remove the water by carefully pressing the cap between two layers of a towel without deforming the firm peak. Put a small towel (20x20 cm) in the hat, and shape it in the form it used to have. Please leave it to dry entirely and flat in an airy room, balcony, or garden. Once it is dry, put some tissue paper in the hat/cap. Store a clean hat/cap in a closed plastic bag to avoid dust or a change of colour.
